Donna ISD continues to expand opportunities that connect learning to life beyond the classroom. The district’s 18+ program continues to build real-world learning experiences that prepare students for what comes next. This work is led by a dedicated department creating meaningful opportunities for students through a partnership with Texas A&M University’s Center on Disability and Development as part of the Work-Based Learning Project, securing a grant of up to $10,000 to strengthen these efforts. That work was on display yesterday morning as students showcased their barista skills at the principals meeting, continuing to refine their skills through hands-on, real-world learning. #DonnaISD #LaunchingALegacy

Donna ISD offers over 25 Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, more than 40 industry-based certifications, and students have earned over 3,800 certifications to date with numbers continuing to grow each day. Through dual credit opportunities, including CTE programs in partnership with South Texas College, students gain real world experience and valuable college credit, graduating college, career, and military ready.

Ms. Liliana Serrano, Early Childhood Instructional Strategist, has been selected as a Quality Reviewer for the TEA Instructional Materials Review and Approval Cycle 2026. This selection speaks to her knowledge of instruction and dedication to supporting student success. As part of this work, she will review SLAR (Spanish Language Arts and Reading) K–3 instructional materials, supporting efforts to ensure students across Texas have access to strong, aligned resources. This recognition also reflects the strength of our Curriculum and Instruction Department in supporting high-quality teaching and learning across Donna ISD. Donna ISD recognizes Donna High School senior Alyson Perez for representing at the RGV All Valley Showcase at Bert Ogden Arena this past weekend. The showcase brings together top senior talent from across the Rio Grande Valley, providing exposure in front of college scouts. Alyson earned a scholarship and now looks ahead to the Rio Sports Live Showcase on April 11–12. Congratulations to Alyson Perez for representing Donna ISD with pride.

We proudly recognize Melissa Luna, Donna ISD social worker, honored with the NASW Texas LRGV Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor awarded by the National Association of Social Workers at the local level. This distinction is not based on years of service alone. It recognizes a career of meaningful, long-term impact on the community and the profession. It reflects how peers in the field view her work as a standard for social work, leaving both the profession and the lives she has touched better than she found them.

That impact is felt every day in our schools through the care, guidance, and support our students receive. It is the kind of work that helps remove barriers, supports well-being, and ensures students are able to learn and succeed.

The Donna North High School Spearettes wrapped up their competition season at ADTS Nationals/Internationals, and competing on a stage this big was an experience they won’t forget. With over 400 routines and 200 solos, they were surrounded by talent, passion, and inspiration, including standout college teams and international groups from places like Japan.

Our Spearettes earned strong national and international rankings, including a National 1st Runner-up finish in Extra Small Solo by Ricky Belmares, 2nd Place Academic Champions based on team GPA, National 1st Runner-up finishes in Lyrical, Pom, and Contemporary, and National 2nd Runner-up overall. They also earned the Gussie Nell Davis Award for scoring 93 and above on all routines, along with an International Lyrical 1st Runner-up finish.

After a season of dedication and hard work, the Spearette Officers were crowned National Champions in both Pom and Lyrical, while also earning National 2nd Runner-up in Contemporary, National 1st Runner-up overall, the Gussie Nell Davis Award, and a Best of the Best National Champions 6th Runner-up finish.

A strong finish built on discipline, preparation, and commitment.

Donna ISD students delivered a strong showing at this Saturday’s Jr. VASE Art Competition. Students from Todd Middle School, Sauceda Middle School, and Veterans Middle School competed in the regional event, where artwork is evaluated through a formal interview and scoring process focused on originality, technique, and artistic intent. Donna ISD students earned regional medals, receiving the highest rating awarded for their work. Our 2nd–5th grade students proudly represented Donna ISD at the UTRGV Torneo de Ortografía, showcasing Spanish language excellence in spelling, vocabulary, and overall proficiency. This event reflects the strong collaboration between our Advanced Academics and Bilingual Departments, along with the dedication of our coaches who prepared students for this opportunity.
