✨ Celebrating Excellence in the Classroom! ✨ More than 140 Donna ISD teachers gathered yesterday for an exciting Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) recognition event, where they discovered if they earned the Recognized, Exemplary, or Master designation. The event, themed after the movie “Wicked,” was filled with excitement and emotion as teachers scratched off cards to reveal their category. 🎭 The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) is a Texas program that rewards outstanding teachers for their impact in the classroom. Through this initiative, educators can earn additional compensation while continuing to make a difference for students in Donna ISD. Congratulations to all of our incredible teachers who continue to inspire, lead, and help build a legacy of learning for our students! 🍎✨

Donna ISD hosted its first Chalk Art Contest, bringing together student artists from our high schools, middle schools, and elementary campuses for a day of creativity and expression. Students transformed sidewalks into vibrant works of art using chalk and soft pastels, showcasing their imagination, talent, and attention to detail while enjoying a beautiful day outdoors. Thank you to our art teachers for encouraging creativity and guiding our students as they brought these colorful creations to life. Donna North High School Culinary students were featured at today’s District Principal Meeting, showcasing the culinary skills they are developing through the program. From preparation to presentation, students demonstrated creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Donna ISD proudly recognizes student Michael David Valle Jr. for representing our district as part of the Region One Drama Therapy Project. Selected during the first semester, Michael has been working alongside students from across the Rio Grande Valley in this regional production titled Challenging the Narrative. Through months of rehearsals and collaboration, students are using theatre as a platform for expression, storytelling, and meaningful dialogue. Michael will take the stage for the regional performance on May 9, representing both his campus and the Donna ISD community. Read Across America Week at Donna ISD Donna ISD campuses wrapped up a great week celebrating Read Across America, with students across the district participating in themed dress-up days, classroom reading activities, and engaging literacy lessons designed to spark a love for books. At Stainke Intermediate Science and Sports Academy, students enjoyed a special visit from guest readers who helped bring stories to life and reminded students of the power of reading. Experiences like these help strengthen literacy skills and create meaningful opportunities for students to grow as readers. Donna ISD extends our sincere thanks to our community partners Texas Trees Foundation and the Texas A&M Forest Service for their support through the Cool Schools Project, an initiative that brings trees and environmental education to school campuses.

Through this partnership, our Curriculum & Instruction Science Department and campus principals have been working hand in hand with our partners to support tree planting and campus beautification efforts that promote environmental awareness and stewardship.

The Cool Schools Project focuses on expanding tree canopy on campuses to create healthier outdoor spaces while helping students understand the importance of conservation and caring for the environment.

Donna ISD is grateful for community partners who continue investing in our students, our schools, and the future of our community.

Donna ISD continues to see strong growth in the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program, with 143 teachers recently earning a new or higher designation, bringing the district total to 212 recognized educators.

TIA designations are awarded to teachers whose classroom instruction and student growth meet some of the highest standards for teaching excellence in Texas. These recognitions highlight the dedication, effectiveness, and impact Donna ISD educators have on student learning every day.

Donna High School Theatre, The Creative Program (TCP), is advancing to the next level of UIL One Act Play competition after earning the 32-5A Zone A championship with their performance of The Copper Children by Karen Zacarías.

The production also made history as the first school in Texas to stage this groundbreaking play, which tells the story of the 1904 “Orphan Train” crisis and explores themes of race, class, and religion. The powerful performance resonated with audiences and judges alike, earning multiple individual honors for members of the cast and crew.

Congratulations to the DHS Theatre students and directors as they continue their UIL journey. Their work on stage reflects the dedication, storytelling, and creativity that help shape well-rounded students and continue building a legacy at Donna ISD through theatre.

Celebrating School Social Worker Week
At Donna ISD, caring for students goes beyond the classroom. We are proud to recognize our District Social Services team, School Social Workers, Communities in Schools Site Managers, and all student support professionals who help ensure every child is supported and valued.
They connect families to vital resources, provide social-emotional support, assist during times of crisis, and work alongside campus teams to remove barriers to learning. Their work strengthens the whole child so students can grow academically, emotionally, and socially.
