Donna ISD students across campuses are experiencing the arts in meaningful, hands-on ways through learning with professional artists and cultural traditions.
At Donna High School, Mrs. Kelsie Garza’s AP Art & Design students explored traditional Papel Amate papermaking and created portfolio pieces using their own handmade paper. They also studied Mexican nicho folk art during a Virgen de Guadalupe workshop with guest artist Karla Gabriela De La Fuente, connecting culture, storytelling, and design through hands-on creation.
At Veterans Middle School, Mrs. Rachel Quiroga’s students participated in a sculpture workshop with Texas sculptor Douglas Clark, gaining insight into professional artistic processes and creative problem-solving.
These experiences build creativity, critical thinking, and cultural understanding, helping prepare students for success beyond the classroom.
