Donna ISD proudly held its District Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 29, showcasing the incredible talent, focus, and determination of our students.
Events like the Spelling Bee highlight more than just strong vocabulary. They build confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills that support our Number One Student Outcome by ensuring every student graduates college, career, or military ready.

Donna ISD continues to advance our Number One Student Outcome through meaningful student experiences. Salinas STEAM Academy 5th graders in ARTES attended an inspiring field trip to see the Valley Symphony Orchestra, enjoying the joy and power of live music.
The ARTES after-school program, available at all elementary campuses for 3rd-5th grade, provides students opportunities to participate in choir, general music, drumline, and folklórico, Building a Legacy through the arts.

This week, Donna ISD campuses have been proudly participating in the Great Kindness Challenge, a nationwide initiative that encourages students and staff to spread kindness through simple, meaningful actions.
From themed dress-up days to intentional acts of kindness, our schools have been focused on building a positive environment rooted in respect, inclusion, and compassion.
We encourage our students, staff, and families to continue choosing kindness each and every day.

Last week, Donna North High School Vet Tech Program students took their learning into the real world, meeting with local municipalities, regional representatives, and community leaders to discuss developing a veterinary tech facility at Donna North High School.
The conversations support students’ goal of expanding hands-on learning through ongoing clinics, increasing the impact of spay and neuter services for the community while strengthening their real-world training. Students also gained valuable experience by practicing professional communication, presenting their ideas, and seeing how their career pathway can make a meaningful difference.
We are proud of how they represented Donna ISD with confidence, knowledge, and heart. Community support continues to show our students that their goals matter.

Donna ISD’s Director of Family Engagement, Mr. Tomas Tamez, has been invited to present alongside Region One Education Service Center at the Title I, Part A Compliance Academy in Austin this February.
Mr. Tamez will share the impactful work happening at Donna ISD through our parent liaisons and dedicated parent volunteers, highlighting meaningful engagement opportunities like Fun Fridays and other family centered Title I initiatives that support student success.

Todd Cherokee Charmers Dance Team Earns a “1” at the VDEC Dance Competition
The Todd Cherokee Charmers Dance Team delivered an outstanding performance at today’s Rio Grande Valley Dance Evaluation (VDEC) held at Valley View High School, earning a Division 1 rating, the highest possible score.
The VDEC competition is part of the regional dance evaluation circuit, bringing together dance teams from across the Rio Grande Valley to be judged on technique, precision, and overall performance quality.

Donna High School proudly celebrated its first-ever Tools of the Trade Ceremony, recognizing students in the HVAC program as they officially begin their college and career pathway.
This milestone directly supports Donna ISD’s Number One Student Outcome: graduating every student college, career, or military ready. Through our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, students can earn industry-based certifications, gain hands-on experience, and graduate prepared for high-demand careers.

This week, Donna ISD recognized Board Appreciation Month with a celebration and student performance held prior to the regularly scheduled board meeting. We thank our
Board of Trustees for their leadership, dedication, and continued support of our students and schools.
One of the many opportunities made possible through their vision is the Adame Fine Arts Academy, which is now open and thriving. Students from the academy shared a special sneak peek performance from the upcoming production of Alice in Wonderland. Our students have been working hard, and their talent and creativity were on full display. Thank you students, parents, and teachers.
