DONNA, TEXAS – Donna Independent School District is expanding its communication platforms with the launch of Donna ISD Talk Radio on Spotify, introducing two original podcast series that highlight student experiences, district achievements, and the people who have shaped Donna ISD's history. The new platform features Quick Take, the Superintendent's Student Spotlight, led by Superintendent Rebecca Castañeda, and Tribal Talk, a student-led podcast hosted by representatives from both district high schools.
Quick Take officially debuted with an unscripted conversation between Superintendent Castañeda and student musicians from Donna High School's Mighty Redskin Band and Donna North High School's Rising Chief Band as they prepared for the UIL Area Marching Contest. The episode gave students an opportunity to share their excitement, preparation, and personal experiences leading up to the competition. Built around the concept of "No script. Just students and conversation," the series provides a more personal look at student accomplishments through informal conversations with the Superintendent.
Set to debut this week, Tribal Talk introduces student co-hosts Michael Samudio of Donna High School and Michael Valle of Donna North High School. The inaugural episode revisits one of the district's most significant athletic achievements, the 1961 Football State Championship, featuring former championship players Mr. Luz Pedraza and Mr. Richard Avila, alongside Donna ISD School Board Member Fernando Castillo. Through their conversations, the student hosts explore the championship season, the personal journeys of their guests, and the traditions that continue to connect generations of Donna ISD students.
With the introduction of both programs, Donna ISD Talk Radio creates another avenue for students to develop communication and interviewing skills while connecting the school community through meaningful conversations. From current student achievements to stories rooted in district history, the platform brings together different generations and perspectives. Families, staff, alumni, and community members are encouraged to follow Donna ISD Talk Radio on Spotify for new episodes of Quick Take and Tribal Talk as the district continues sharing the voices and stories of Donna ISD.
