Donna ISD continues to celebrate the progress of major bond projects across the District, reflecting a significant investment in facilities designed to meet the needs of students, strengthen learning environments and serve the community for years to come. Today, Donna ISD held ribbon cutting ceremonies at Donna North High School and Salazar Elementary to officially open two new wings. The Donna North addition provides expanded classroom and instructional space, while Salazar Elementary’s new early childhood wing features classrooms, new furniture, learning spaces and resources designed specifically for young learners.
These projects are part of a larger investment in Donna ISD facilities made possible through the support of the community. The bond program included nearly $38.9 million for new wings at Muñoz Elementary, Garza Elementary, Salazar Elementary, Singleterry Elementary and Donna North High School. Approximately $28.9 million supported major improvements at A.P. Solis and Todd middle schools, including new gymnasiums and upgraded spaces for fine arts, athletics, student services and campus operations. Donna High School improvements, totaling $18.76 million, include a new cafeteria and additional campus upgrades, while $2.75 million supported outdoor learning spaces across elementary campuses.
Many of these spaces are already in use, with additional projects nearing completion. New wings at Singleterry Elementary, Garza Elementary and Muñoz Elementary are serving students and staff each day, while work continues to move forward at other campuses. Todd Middle School is anticipated to reach completion in late September, followed by Donna High School in October. As these projects move closer to completion, the District looks forward to continuing to celebrate each milestone and opening more of these new and improved spaces to students and staff.
Throughout the bond program, careful consideration has been given to the character and history of Donna ISD campuses. The District worked with architects and contractors familiar with the original buildings, along with specialized architectural expertise for historic facilities, to ensure new construction blended seamlessly with existing structures. From exterior design and materials to architectural details, the goal was for each addition to feel like a natural part of the original campus while providing modern spaces that meet the needs of today’s students.
With projects across Donna ISD completed, in use or approaching completion, the impact of this investment is taking shape throughout the District. These facilities represent more than new classrooms, gyms and campus spaces. They represent an investment in the students who will learn, grow and build their futures within them.
