During Meet the Teacher Night at Todd Middle School, teacher Teresa Infante was speaking to a classroom filled with students and parents about perseverance. She compared their journey to a race, reminding them that obstacles may come, but the finish line is graduation. At that exact moment, former student Erasmo Sarmiento, a Donna High School Class of 2026 graduate, walked through her door wearing his cap and gown, diploma in hand.

“Go on, Mrs. Infante. Continue what you are saying,” he told her. Erasmo then turned to the students: “She was tough on me, but she never gave up on me.” Looking back at Mrs. Infante, he added, “I told you I’d come back to show you that I did it.” The moment brought Mrs. Infante to tears. Long before Erasmo crossed the graduation stage, she saw the finish line for him and made sure he knew he could reach it.

At Donna ISD, that finish line is also a starting point. Our Number One Student Outcome is to see every student through graduation, prepared for college, career, or military service. Erasmo came back with his diploma and a powerful reminder of what it means to believe in a student, push them forward, and never give up on the future you know they can reach.
