Donna ISD has been selected as one of only five independent school districts in the region to receive the Texas Workforce Commission’s Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant, earning $337,820 to expand Career and Technical Education programs.
Awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission, the JET Grant supports schools in preparing students for high-demand careers through real-world training experiences. Donna ISD’s award will support 310 students through a partnership with South Texas College, with a focus on healthcare pathways including medical assisting and nursing support.
The funding will provide industry-standard equipment that allows students to train in environments that reflect modern clinical settings. Through hands-on learning with professional tools, software, and procedures, students will build the technical skills and experience needed to transition confidently into postsecondary education or the workforce.
This investment comes at a critical time as healthcare careers across the Lower Rio Grande Valley are projected to grow by 16 percent by 2026. By expanding access to these programs, Donna ISD is strengthening the local workforce while creating direct pathways to high-wage, high-skill careers for its students. These opportunities align with the district’s commitment to graduating every student college, career, or military ready.
District leadership formally accepted the award during a recognition event at South Texas College, marking another step forward in building strong partnerships that benefit students and the broader community.
More information about the statewide awards can be found through the Texas Workforce Commission JET Grant Announcement.
Through investments like these, Donna ISD continues to expand opportunities, strengthen pathways, and deliver on its commitment to its number one student outcome. Different pathways. One Donna ISD outcome. Launching a Legacy.
