Donna Independent School District has been recognized on the national stage for its commitment to student safety after being named one of only 50 school districts across the United States to receive the Omnilert Secure Schools Grant.
The competitive national grant will allow Donna ISD to enhance campus safety by upgrading up to 50 existing security cameras with advanced AI powered detection technology over the next three years. The system transforms current security infrastructure into proactive tools that can identify potential threats and immediately alert law enforcement, improving response times when every second matters.
The Omnilert Gun Detect system uses advanced visual AI to help detect potential threats early, providing an added layer of protection for students and staff. By integrating this technology into existing cameras, the district is able to strengthen safety measures without major structural changes, while continuing to prioritize proactive prevention and rapid response.
Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez emphasized the importance of the award and what it represents for the district.
“Receiving the Omnilert Secure Schools Grant allows us to build on the strong safety measures already in place across our district. By enhancing our existing security systems with advanced AI technology, we are providing an additional layer of protection for our students and staff,” Dominguez said.
This new technology builds upon Donna ISD’s established safety framework, which includes secured campus entrances, a dedicated district police department, regular emergency preparedness drills, and ongoing partnerships with local law enforcement agencies. Together, these efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to school safety that focuses on prevention, preparedness, and protection.
The implementation of the Omnilert system further demonstrates Donna ISD’s dedication to maintaining safe and secure learning environments while providing families and staff with added confidence and peace of mind.
Through continued investments in safety and innovation, Donna ISD remains committed to protecting its students and staff and ensuring that every campus is a place where learning can thrive.
