Donna ISD students are stepping into new career opportunities through a partnership with South Texas College that has launched dual credit cohorts in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Automotive Technology.

Beginning in Spring 2026, participating students are attending classes at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley Campus, where they are earning college credit while completing high school graduation requirements. The programs provide structured instruction and hands-on technical training aligned to industry standards.

The addition of HVAC and Automotive Technology expands Donna ISD’s growing dual credit portfolio and strengthens the district’s commitment to preparing students for college, career, or military readiness. These programs allow students to gain exposure to high-demand technical fields while developing practical skills that translate directly into workforce opportunities.

Through lab-based instruction and real-world applications, students are building foundational knowledge in systems diagnostics, mechanical processes, safety protocols, and industry practices. The experience helps students explore career interests early while also accelerating their postsecondary pathways.

District leaders shared that expanding access to career-focused dual credit programs reflects Donna ISD’s continued investment in Career and Technical Education. By collaborating with South Texas College, the district is creating additional pathways that allow students to graduate with both academic credit and industry-aligned training.

South Texas College also highlighted the launch of these first dual credit cohorts in a recent article detailing the partnership and program rollout at its Mid-Valley Campus. That coverage further outlines the collaboration between the college and Donna ISD in expanding access to technical education opportunities.

As workforce needs continue to evolve across the Rio Grande Valley, partnerships like this ensure students are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in competitive career fields.

Donna ISD remains committed to expanding innovative programs that open doors for students and strengthen the bridge between high school, higher education, and the workforce.
