Students from Ochoa Primary Science and Sports Academy are gaining real world experience in environmental stewardship and are now featured in a regional conservation video highlighting restoration efforts in the Rio Grande Valley.

The project, led by American Forests, focuses on the restoration and protection of the native thornforest ecosystem of South Texas. Once widespread across the region, thornforests now represent only a fraction of their historic range. These ecosystems are vital habitats that support hundreds of plant and animal species and play an important role in biodiversity, climate resilience, and land conservation.

Ochoa Primary students are proudly featured as part of this conservation story, representing Donna ISD’s commitment to hands on, meaningful learning experiences. Through their Agricultural Science class, students are connecting classroom instruction to real world environmental efforts happening in their own community.

A special shout out to our Donna ISD Science Department for facilitating this opportunity and helping bring authentic, engaging learning experiences to our students.

This opportunity reflects the district’s dedication to preparing students not only academically, but as informed and responsible citizens who understand the importance of protecting natural resources. Experiences like these support Donna ISD’s Number One Student Outcome by equipping students with knowledge, awareness, and skills that prepare them for college, career, or military pathways.

Donna ISD is proud to see Ochoa Primary Science and Sports Academy represented in this important regional initiative as our students continue Launching a Legacy of leadership, learning, and community impact.
