Donna ISD Superintendent joins world-class Superintendent Leadership Program

The Donna Independent School District is proud to announce that the prestigious Holdsworth Center has selected Donna ISD Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez to join its world-class Superintendent Leadership Program. Dr. Dominguez was one of 13 superintendents from across the state of Texas accepted into the program’s new cohort of school district leaders, which began Wednesday, September 13th at the premier leadership institute based in Austin, Texas.

The Holdsworth Center, founded by H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt, makes available three programs (Holdsworth Partnership, Leadership Collaborative and Superintendent Leadership Program) to school district educators designed to grow stronger leaders through its rigorous leadership curriculum and coaching experiences. Dr. Dominguez was chosen to participate in the Superintendent Leadership Program following a competitive application process. With this year being her third of her first superintendency, the program will give Dr. Dominguez the opportunity to work with and learn from extraordinary leaders.

“I am extremely honored and excited to have been accepted into this esteemed program,” said Dr. Dominguez. “In the context of what’s been happening in public schools in regards to school safety across the country, state mandates and other unprecedented challenges, I look forward to this professional growth opportunity.”

According to the Holdsworth Center’s website, the Superintendent Leadership Program is an 18-month program for a cohort of leaders who are in their first five years of the superintendency or are new to a large district and likely to have a long runway as a superintendent. The program’s curriculum extends beyond core leadership skills by providing training and support in the most challenging, high-stakes, and high-leverage aspects of the superintendent’s role, which includes:

· leading with vision and strategy,

· communication,

· navigating and external landscape,

· and building a high-performing executive team.

In a welcome letter to the new cohort, Dr. Lindsay Whorton, President of the Holdsworth Center said, “Having well-prepared, resilient superintendents at the helm of all Texas districts is critical to confronting the challenges facing public education and delivering on the promise of an excellent education to every child,” said Dr. Whorton. “We feel we are uniquely positioned to provide the kind of support superintendents need and to strengthen the leadership pipeline statewide.”

During the program, superintendents will have the opportunity to attend learning sessions led by top-tier leadership development faculty and receive executive coaching from one of the program’s Superintendents-in-Residence. The center covers the cost of programming thanks to the generosity of its founder and other philanthropic supporters.
