    Free full-day Pre-K 3 & 4 Program

One of the best investments a parent can make for their child is to enroll them in an Early Childhood program. Donna ISD offers PreK 3 at 11 elementary campuses across the district (Adame, Caceres, Garza, Guzman, LeNoir, Price, Rivas, Salazar, Salinas, Singleterry and Stainke). PreK 4 is available across all the elementary schools. According to experts, early childhood is a time of remarkable growth with brain development at its peak. It not only prepares a child for primary school, it promotes the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of the child.

Children in early childhood programs are:

    • Less likely to repeat a grade.
    • Less likely to be identified as having special needs.
    • More prepared academically for later grades.
    • More likely to graduate from high school
    • Higher earners in the workforce.

If you are interested in enrolling your children in Donna ISD’s Early Childhood program, registration begins April 1, 2022 at the individual campuses that offer PreK 3 and at every school for PreK 4. As part of expanding this initiative and continuing its success, Donna ISD hired an Early Childhood Coordinator to oversee the program and develop state-of-the-art, innovative instructional curriculum. For further information, you can contact the Intake/Student Engagement Department at (956)461-4322.

    Advanced Academic Courses

The Donna Independent School District offers K-12 Advanced Academic Programs, Gifted/Talented for elementary schools, and Pre-AP/AP for secondary schools. Advanced Academic courses offer more rigorous curriculums than standard high school courses do. While only some advanced courses result in college credit, those that do can also help students fulfill college requirements before leaving high school, potentially saving thousands of dollars on college tuition. Students who participate have been associated with higher student achievement and college readiness.

In addition, these students tend to be more successful in college admissions, scholarships, college grade point averages, and college completion rates. For more information, contact our Advanced Academic Department at (956)464-1600 ext. 5005.

    T-STEM Academies

The Donna Independent School District offers T-STEM Academies at Donna North High School and Donna High School (phasing out). The academies function as a school within a school where interested students participate in a curriculum that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our academies also follow the Project-Based Learning (PBL) concept which means all core classes are integrated while the students are working together trying to solve real-life problems. For more information, contact our Advanced Academic Department at (956)464-1600 ext. 5005.

    Specialized Campuses

The Donna Independent School District has three magnet schools at the elementary level (M. Rivas School of the Arts, Salnas Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Campus and J.W. Caceres Discovery Academy) For those of you who are not familiar with the term, magnet schools focus on a specific area of interest. Rivas specializes in the Fine Arts and incorporates four disciplines (music, dance, theatre, and visual arts) into the curriculum. Salinas provides an educational approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, the arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. Caceres embraces students’ creativity, curiosity and imagination and prepares them to be critical thinkers, problem-solvers and risk-takers ready to face the world.

Donna ISD also has one magnet school in the middle school level. D.M. Sauceda Middle School S.T.E.A.M. Academy provides an educational approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, the arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.

Children in magnet programs still learn the basic curricula that regular school programs provide, but those basics are enhanced by the special teaching techniques and more personalized settings of magnet schools.
