Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Linda Taunton

First, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! Although we arestarting our time off in a very different way, I am still just as excited to get to know you, work withyou, and learn together.I am starting my 13th year of teaching for Donna Independent School District (wow, thatmakes me feel old). In my years in Donna, I have taught 5th grade Science for 5 years, 6thgrade Reading for 1 year, and the rest of my experience has been in 8th grade Science. I havebeen a team leader and now currently serve as the Science department head for our campus.Personally, I am a wife, mother to one beautiful little boy, and a dog mom.I was not always sold on teaching, even though I come from a family of great teachers, itnever seemed like the path I was going to take. My initial plan was to become a physicaltherapist, however, life tends to take us down different paths and change our plans. Whileattending the University of Texas Pan American (now UTRGV) I changed my major three times!I learned that physical therapy was not for me, and neither was becoming a mathematician, instead I found enjoyment in teaching others. I worked as a teller for Inter National Bank allthrough college and found myself in many situations where I was teaching. I was assigned toopen two new bank locations and teach new tellers how to do their job. I was even offered ahigher position in which I’d become the Lead Teller for the entire bank and be in charge of alltellers for the entire banking region. I decided then that my calling was to teach, and here I am!My future plans include obtaining a masters in education where I can become a curriculumspecialist and continue teaching other teachers.Again, this year may be different compared to previous years, but the excitement ingetting to meet you and work with you is still the same. Can’t wait to learn together during this2020-2021 school year! Welcome back!
