Texas Success Initiative Assessment

What is the TSI Assessment?

This assessment is a series of questions that help predict what classes are best suited for your needs. All college students in Texas will complete this test unless they meet exemption criteria.

The purpose of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is to determine if you are ready for college-level work in the areas of reading, writing and math. Success in these areas can help you complete your college degree or certificate program.

What does the assessment measure?

Standardized assessments are designed and administered to students and the results indicate a student’s ability to complete certain tasks or demonstrate skills and knowledge. They often use a multiple-choice format, though some include open-ended, short-answer questions.

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment will measure your knowledge in Math, Reading, Writing.

Why are these results important?

The results are important because your success in college is important! Academic advisors will use test results to place you in a class that is a good fit for you. Matching your skill level and interests with suitable courses will help you reach your educational goals more quickly.
