Advanced Academic Courses

The Donna Independent School District offers K-12 Advanced Academic Programs, Gifted/Talented for elementary schools and Pre-AP/AP for secondary schools. Advanced Academic courses offer more rigorous curriculums than standard high school courses do. While only some advanced courses result in college credit, those that do can also help students fulfill college requirements before leaving high school, potentially saving thousands of dollars on college tuition. Students who participate have been associated with higher student achievement and college readiness.

In addition, these students tend to be more successful in college admissions, scholarships, college grade point averages, and college completion rates. For more information, contact our Advanced Academic Department at (956)464-1600 ext. 1062.

T-STEM Academies

The Donna Independent School District offers T-STEM Academies at Donna High School and Donna North High School. The academies function as a school-within- a school where interested students participate in a curriculum that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Our academies also follow the Project Based Learning (PBL) concept which means all core classes are integrated while the students are working together trying to solve real-life problems. For more information, contact our Advanced Academic Department at (956)464-1600 ext. 1062.

Dual Language Program

The Donna Independent School District offers the Dual Language Model - Simultaneous Biliteracy program. It is offered at PreK-2nd grade at 5 campuses, PreK-3rd grade at 3 campuses, and PreK-1st at 2 campuses (7 total). The program provides instruction for all subjects in English and Spanish and structured where both languages alternate every other day. Literacy is tracked for both languages on a monthly basis.
Students who participate in the dual language model for 5 consecutive years will receive one high school Languages Other Than English (LOTE) credit.

Early College High School Program

The Donna Independent School District secured TEA approval for a stand-alone Early College High School for Donna ISD. This Early College High School is one of the strategies we will use to prepare all of our students to be college, career or military ready upon graduation.
Planning for the new Early College High School will take place during the 2019-2020 school year with doors scheduled to open in 2020-2021. For more information, contact the Advanced Academic Department at (956)464-1600 ext. 1062.

Magnet School Designations

The Donna Independent School District will be designating magnet schools across our district. Magnet schools focus on specific areas of interest, such as Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM), Fine Arts and Career Technology and Education (CTE). The curriculum utilizes a hands-on, centralized approach to providing students with a robust learning experience in areas that capitalize on their strengths and interests.

Children in magnet programs still learn the basic curricula that regular school programs provide, but those basics are enhanced by the special teaching techniques and more personalized settings of magnet schools. More information will be provide as we move further along in the planning phase.

24 Industry Certifications

The Donna Independent School District offers 24 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that combine high-quality, rigorous instruction with real-life experiences to prepare students for the future. The programs focus on 13 career clusters that prepare students to achieve at high levels whether they want to get a head start with college by earning college credit or earn a state or nationally recognized certification or license and enter the workforce after high school graduation.

Currently, efforts are underway to add more CTE programs in the 2019-2020 school year. For more information, contact the CTE Department at 956-464-1600 ext. 1106.
