The Donna ISD Board of Trustees at its March 6 special board meeting called for a $49.9 million bond referendum to be held May 10, 2008. The Bond Election was called to respond to enrollment growth at the secondary level. Presently, nearly 1,600 students attend class in 63 portable classrooms in grades 6th - 12th. This is enough to fill two secondary campuses. Trustees accepted teh recommendations of the Citizen Planning Committee, which includes a resolution approved by the Board limiting construction to the following projects:
Land acquistion for new school
Construction of a new 11th and 12th grade campus
Construction of new FFA complex
